    WPS Office Free

    Version 10.2.0.6020

    0 downloads

WPS Office Free, formerly Kingsoft Office, is ideal for those familiar with Microsoft Office 2003 prior to the creation of the 'ribbon' feature in 2007. It will let you feel perfectly at home. To say that it is similar to Microsoft Office would be the understatement; they are practically identical. There are three main packages: WPS Writer, a word processor that can import from Microsoft Word (.doc & .docx) with the ability to have separate documents in a tabbed interface. WPS Spreadsheet, a spreadsheet application that can import from Microsoft Excel and having the same cells range (65,536 rows * 256 columns) as the Microsoft Office 2003 equivalent. WPS Presentation, a presentation suite that can import all Microsoft Powerpoint documents. For a freeware equivalent to Microsoft Office and for those who liked the simpler old style 2003 interface then WPS Office Suite Free is the application. There isn't a single feature I found that isn't IDENTICAL to the Microsoft Office 2003 equivalent. The similarities even go far into the styles of WordArt. WPS did offer a unique tabbed experience allowing multiple documents or spreadsheets within the same window making switching between them quick and simple. There are however two annoying selections upon installation: the startup of a browser linking to WPS's website, and the other is a popup asking to switch to another UI (basically the new ribbon effect which isn't free). A quirky feature is the quick UI color feature allowing the UI to be alternated to an additional eight different skins helping color code your office suite with your OS skin. Familiar office interface, easy to pick up, tabbing within each application, direct PDF output. Opens a browser link when application starts, switch UI popup annoying.

    windows Return Fire

    Version

    0 downloads

Return Fire was basically the 3DO's best game, and one of the most fun multiplayer action games ever. You and either a computer player or one of your friends are given control of a bunker equipped with military vehicles and perhaps a base. The goal of the game is very simple: To capture your opponent's flag. For your firepower, you have 4 vehicles. First up is the Tank. Fast moving, and equipped with a rotatable turret, it's firepower is unfortunately fairly low compared to some of the other vehicles. Next of all is the Rocket Launcher. Far heavier power is let down by poor maneuverability & slow speeds. It has a nice special ability in the fact that it can drop mines, perfect for destroying bridges and defending the flag. You also get the Helicopter, with missiles and bullets. It is very quick, but unfortunately can get quickly destroyed if bogged down by enemy turret fire. Finally, there is the Jeep. Very fast and easy to drive after you understand it, it's weaponry is pitiful, just some grenades. However, this is the ONLY vehicle that can actually pick up the flag so you can win the scenario. In single player mode, this game is unfortunately rather boring. But with a friend playing splitscreen the game improves immensely, as you scheme to beat your "friend", who will no doubt be an enemy after a few sessions of Return Fire.

    windows Enemy Infestation

    Version

    1 download

Enemy Infestation is an interesting and enjoyable squad-based RTS. The action takes place on a human colony of Redavi, where an alien spaceship has crash-landed. The ship is actually one of many colonizing pods sent out from the dying alien home planet, in an attempt to preserve their species. However that little tidbit of the alien's history has little to with the game, as the rest of the story is the standard 'aliens invade planet, humans stop aliens' fare. However, the game itself is quite intriguing. The game is set over 27 missions, and includes a good tutorial that explains the basics of the game very well. Each mission has a large variety of tasks to complete ranging from rescuing fellow colonists to exterminating all the aliens. A nice thing about the mission structure, is that you will always have at least three missions available to choose from, allowing you to go on with the game if any level gets too tough (and trust me, they will). The interface is simple and easy to use, anyone who is familiar with RTS games can skip the tutorial entirely. Enemy Infestation plays like other squad-based strategy games. You lead your troops around discovering the map, killing enemies and completing tasks. What makes this game unique from other games of its genre is its weapons system. When you begin a mission, the effect of the weapons you will find is unknown. You have to experiment with the weapons you find to see what effect they have on the aliens. The effects can be beneficial, such as shrink, kill, freeze, or detrimental: multiply, grow, attract. These effects change each time you play, so a gun that may have been useful for killing aliens in the last mission may cause them to multiply in the next mission. Its is not all trial and error though, as there are a few weapons with consistent effects. Some of the missions even allow you to research and modify a weapon to become more useful to you. Unfortunately, there are only five maps over which the missions take place. Later missions just re-use the same map, with different object placement and different locked doors. But the designers have done a good job of making sure each mission plays differently from other missions using the same map.

    windows The Neverhood

    Version

    0 downloads

The Neverhood is one of the most original adventure games ever made, and one of the prime examples of how an ultra-slick style is sometimes enough to carry the game, even though we all know that substance is more important than style. Instead of using cartoons or computer animation, they built the entire set of the game with 2 tons of clay! Quite an achievement in any media, and the result is nothing short of amazing. The storyline is quite simple. You play the role of Klayman; you wake up in a room, and you have to figure what to do from there. Rooms and puzzles are played from a third person perspective, while moving from one place to another takes form in FMV cut scenes in first person. The game is extremely appealing to all family members, and is a lot of fun to play with.

    windows Moon Tycoon

    Version

    0 downloads

Moon Tycoon, despite blocky graphics, basic sounds, and a familiar story, is surprisingly addictive and given half a chance, may work its way under your skin. It adds nothing new to the genre, but offers enough to make you sneak in an extra session here and there. The Earth's population has devoured the world's fuel supply, but the crisis can be averted when a rare isotope used in fusion, known as Helium 3, is found in abundance on the moon. As part of the Space Agency, a U.N. approved pioneer group, you must not only deal with the harsh environment of the moon, but also with the agency's craven, bureaucratic leader, President Little. Four types of industries, each with unique strategies, include research, tourism, production, and mining. Only by balancing business and the rigors of space will you become the ultimate moon tycoon. The science fiction plot has some basis in reality, as Helium 3, a real-world element found mainly on the moon, is considered by some experts as a possible solution to the inevitable energy shortage facing the world. From that point, though, the story wanders with lame stock characters. President Little is a whiny, incompetent back stabber whose son is no better. Fu Chan, your first officer, drifts into space after inspecting a radar anomaly, and returns barely alive years later, with a possible alien abduction mystery in tow. The trite story furthers the missions, but isn't engrossing.

    windows Bermuda Syndrome

    Version

    0 downloads

A fun but frustratingly difficult action adventure that is all but unknown outside a few countries in Europe, Bermuda Syndrome tells a story of Jack, a World War II fighter pilot who was shot down into a mysterious jungle during a dogfight. As his plane comes hurtling out of the sky, we first catch a glimpse of our princess (yup, the Amazon-type one), all tied up and ready to be a Tyrannosaur's lunch. Fortunately for her, Jack's plane chops its head off on the way to crashing. After making sure we all know who's who, we are treated to some very rich images of Jack hanging from a tree by his parachute, with the princess still tied up on her platform. Welcome to the first puzzle... Bermuda Syndrome is a side-scrolling action adventure that will immediately remind everyone of Delphine's Flashback, an earlier underdog. The similarities are more than skin-deep as well (although the graphics in Bermuda Syndrome are ten times better, all rendered in SVGA): both games successfully blend traditional adventure game elements (e.g. inventory-based puzzles, character interaction) with action sequences. The controls in Bermuda Syndrome is not as intuitive, however, and coordinating some of the moves can take some practice, so you must save often. One of the major differences is that in this game, you need to worry about the princess even more than yourself, since she tags along merrily, oblivious to any danger she faces-- and she can't fight, jump, or swim like you do. This means you not only have to deal with menacing dinosaurs of all kinds, but also have to protect the princess and keep her in your sight all the time. Fortunately, she does serve as an in-game hint system, and talking to her when you're stuck will often yield important clues. In addition to an unnecessarily difficult interface, the game strongly reminds me of Silmarils' impossible Robinson's Requiem: the game is HUGE (228 screens, to be exact), and you'll die a thousand deaths before finally finishing it. It's safe to say that adventure game fans who are not also masters of action games will likely be too frustrated to play the game to the finish. Which is somewhat a shame, because the interesting story and some ingenious puzzles compensate for the difficulty leval. As it is, though, the game is only recommended to action experts who want some adventure in their gaming, not the other way around. Two thumbs up, but not for the faint of heart or the weak of reflexes.

    windows Fate

    Version

    0 downloads

Fate, an action role-playing game, is a budget release. It’s a simple formula, on the surface: a dungeon, a Foozle, and as many random number generators as needed to occupy the player between the two. It’s an old idea that was tried with Sacred, Divine Divinity, Dungeon Siege, and of course Diablo. In Fate, you play a hobbit out to invade the local mega-dungeon and score scads of experience, skills, loot, and, uh, fish. If the plot seems largely nonexistent in that description, it’s because the game’s designers figured we wanted less text scroll and more plunder. FATE is essentially Diablo, streamlined and polished until just the really fun bits remain, like the dungeon crawling, the wholesale pillaging, and the character dress-up. All of the good stuff is in there: gambling for high-ticket gear, socketed items to customize, shrines, and random enchantments. There are also random quests that scale well to your character’s level, which provide you large experience boosts and nab you “fame” (which in turn grants you access to better kit). Better yet, there’s a simple yet oddly absorbing fishing mini-game, which is certain to key into any of your obsessive-compulsive disorders. Early on, it can nab you fish to temporarily transform your surprisingly capable AI pet into a more powerful form, or even a low-level artifact or two. As you delve into the lower floors of the dungeon, fishing can nab you permanent transformations for your pet, or score you the uber-artifacts whose sale can finance your gambling addiction and the expensive fame upgrades from the local bard. There are no classes in the game, just skills such as Attack and Defense Magic, weapon specialties (including dual-wielding), and various passive skills like Critical Strike and Spellcasting. This allows you to develop your character as you see fit, and means that all of the loot you get is largely usable save for specific minimum base requirements. Fate strikes an elegant balance when it comes to difficulty, and features the best method of handling character death seen in any game of this type. Instead of losing your items and reappearing in town, it gives you three options: sacrifice a chunk of fame and experience for an on-the-spot resurrection; pay a big fine in gold and get dumped in a random nearby level; or just drop all your gold where you died and then trek back down to get it. Usually, it’s easiest to opt for the second option—while the game makes experience easy to get, losing fame really hurts. Fortunately, death isn’t that common, even on the Hero setting. Dying is almost never due to controls, but rather overconfidence and negligence, as it should be for games of this genre. The interface itself is a joy, much as it is in the Blizzard games. Colorful feedback is always available, and each button and click has a specific, obvious, on-screen response.

    windows Warlords Battlecry 2

    Version

    0 downloads

What differentiates Warlords Battlecry II from the horde are its scope and depth, having that same sort of magic that made the first entry of Warlord’s real-time foray so enticing. Granted, WBC2 doesn’t fix what isn’t broke. It just adds more races, hero classes, buildings, options, and units — throwing tons of creativity into the upgrade. You don’t just have two or three races – you have 12 (up three from the original game), each with well-balanced and engaging characteristics. The Dark Elves, for instance, have a Queen Spider unit that automatically lays eggs in a unit it kills, producing four new Spiders. Freedom is king as usual, with your heroes having a choice of 20 professions, each with advantages and drawbacks. Since you can carry a hero through individual skirmishes and also through WBC2’s campaign, gaining levels at the end of battles, each hero becomes distinct and personalized. One new feature is a standout, though – a non-linear campaign, set on a map of 67 provinces split up among the 12 races. Subjugating a specific province brings unique benefits: by destroying the Barbarian resistance in Toragnar, for example, all your troops get a permanent +1 Morale in future campaign scenarios, plus an immediate tribute and a yearly income. One of the neatest strategic benefits comes from conquering the home province of another race — doing so lets you produce units belonging to that race, a feature that hasn’t been seen in an SSG product since the original Warlords game. Of course, other heroes aren’t sitting quietly in their castles sipping tea while you overrun the countryside. Each race has ambitions of conquest, and they’ll vanquish one another, slowly gathering territorial benefits — and they’ll attempt to reconquer the provinces you’ve overwhelmed, forcing you to fight to hold what you’ve gained. In all, the second game in the line of real-time Warlords is a definitive hard-hitter.

    windows Twisted Metal 2

    Version

    0 downloads

The second in the Twisted Metal series of car combat games, and the last to be developed by SingleTrac, Twisted Metal 2 is considered by most of its fans to be the pinnacle of the series. Combat takes place between a wide array of vehicles ranging from a man strapped between two wheels to an ice cream truck, using an eclectic arrangement of weaponry. The action takes place in 8 different locales around the world, many featuring destructible buildings and landmarks. The plot - the least important element in games of this kind - is simple: you are competing in a worldwide car combat game staged by the a powerful man named Calypso. You pick your vehicle from an array of heavily-modified cars, including a flamethrowing Chevette, a spinning F1, to a dangerous contraption that consists of nothing more than two monster wheels (with you strapped in the middle). You then play through a series of arena throughout the world, picking up weapons and trying to kill other vehicles before you are toast. Like other SingleTrac games (most notably JetMoto), the gameplay in Twisted Metal 2 is very well designed. Each car has its own special move, and the game obeys a logical yet totally unrealistic physics model that allows you to turn on a dime and go flying 100 feet in the air. The weapons in comparison are quite standard: dumbfire and homing missiles, ricochet bombs, mines, napalm, and many more. The environments are also very well-designed. The Paris level, for example, features a destructible Eiffel Tower in addition to several priceless works of art in the Louvre; the Antarctica level collapses piece by piece until one small glacier island is left; the incredibly large Hong Kong level contains a subway (complete with trains coming and going on schedule), and one of the biggest and most difficult bosses you will ever see. There are also a few multiplayer modes to choose from, including a two-player co-operative mode that allows you and a friend to go against computer-controlled teams. With excellent levels, furious action, and unrealistic but fun physics.

    windows Turok Dinosaur Hunter

    Version

    0 downloads

One of the first action games that look better on PC than the console, Turok Dinosaur Hunter is an excellent and innovative first-person shooter that is much more of an action-oriented exploration title than your average Quake clone. Shawn Quigley of the Adrenaline Vault says it all about this 3D underdog: "Turok Dinosaur Hunter on the PC is a direct port of the popular N64 game. To pull off the graphics and effects that a N64 can handle, Acclaim made the bold move of making the title require a 3D accelerator. What this gives gamers is a game that actually looks better on the PC than the N64, mainly because of a higher resolution. It also carries over some of the limitations that the N64 has. The concept behind Turok Dinosaur Hunter is loosely based around a comic book hero, Turok. There is a storyline weaved throughout all the action found in the game; Turok learns of an arch-nemesis, the Campaigner, who has plans to conquer Earth. To defeat the Campaigner it is up to Turok to locate all the pieces of a mystical weapon, the Chronosceptor. With the Chronosceptor, Turok will have enough power to rid the Campaigner from the Lost Land.

    windows Black & White 2

    Version

    0 downloads

In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units. Black & White 2 also features a more conventional HUD (heads-up display) system than its predecessor. Rather than the experimental HUD-less gameplay seen in the original game, Black & White 2 features HUD notifications that inform players of their creature's state of mind, the effects of their actions on their creature, the status of villages, etc. The only way the player can interact with this world directly is through the player's hand, with which the player can pick up people, trees, food, and influence the ground. The player can also cast miracles. However, a certain amount of "Prayer Power" (in essence, "Mana") from the player's believers is needed to do this.
