    dos Retribution

    Version DOS

    0 downloads

The plot: as the name implies, fight to avenge the fallen of your race that have been ?harvested? by the evil Krellans (no relation to Star Fleet games). Cutscenes and digitized speech both add to the atmosphere, but unfortunately the plot doesn?t get better than the very simplistic kill-the-aliens premise. Between missions, you can wander around in the base talking to different characters (who look remarkably similar to pilots in Wing Commander 1), who often have tips or info on the backstory. The writing is sub-par, however, making these ?interactive scenes? little more than a waste of space. The good news is that true to Gremlin?s reputation as developer of some of the best in-game 3D graphics, the 3D landscapes in Retribution are very smooth and detailed, with good gouraud-shading effects similar to NovaLogic games. Gremlin touted their technology as ?logi-scape real time landscape generating technology incorporating new "Deep Horizon' format,? and the results are great to look at. Retribution is a very challenging game that gets very hard very fast. With eleven major campaigns, each with 4 highly strategic missions, and 8 training missions to enhance performance, Retribution will keep the most expert of pilots occupied for some time. Recommended, but only for veteran gamers who are looking for a furious space combat game without the need for an engaging plot.

dos Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf

    Version

    0 downloads

An isometric-view heli-shooter, not bad at all - just leave out the idiotic story. That banal premise has probably been played to death by the many follow-ups, without adding anything to the game. Despite cliche premise (part of the war effort in the Gulf, yada yada yada), the game is a lot of fun. Your helicopter has various weapons and a winch, which can be used to pickup ammo, fuel, armor, and even POW's. Missions range from rescue to seek and destroy, and the game switches objectives often enough that it never becomes boring. The maps are huge, and full of interesting power-ups, secrets, and various ground-based enemies. You can blow up most things, including buildings, and the graphics are superior to most games at the time. Overall, a great game for all fans of shooters which might even appeal to flight sim gamers. The successor Jungle Strike is also available at this site.

    dos Alien Legacy

    Version

    0 downloads

Designed by Joe Ybarra, designer of the classic Starflight games, Alien Legacy is an excellent space strategy game with a good dose of adventure and action elements thrown in. In the tradition of Starflight, explore and build new colonies on distant planets while researching alien technologies. The cliche plot at the start soon evolves into an interesting mix of alien espionage, mysteries, and intergalactic conflicts. A solid game (although not a classic that Starflight is) that was severely underrated and underhyped, and light-years better than the its overhyped cousin Outpost DOSBox This requires the DOSBox emulator. You can get it here.

    X-Com 1 and 2 Pack

    Version

    0 downloads

X-Com 1 Offering strategy in a world of sci-fi / futuristic, turn-based, rpg elements, X-COM: UFO Defense is an abandonware developed by Mythos Games Ltd. and published by MicroProse Software, Inc.. Released in 1994, you wander around in a isometric, bird's-eye view perspective. The first game of the X-COM series, UFO was well received but suffers from its uneven graphics and the heavy menus. The game takes loads of hours to be enjoyed! If you are having problems running the game then check out this page. X-Com 2 A must-have for any strategy and wargame lovers, Terror from the deep is quite similar to UFO, but have more various sceneries, is more complexity and a bigger longevity. This X-COM got more plans, more guns, bewitching music and formidable AI (too much sometime). Some bad points: interception phases can be laborious sometime, the game interface is still messy and the game is not in S-VGA! Tons of time is necessary to play it, beware! X-COM: Terror from the Deep patch, fixes, maps or miscellaneous utilities. If you are having problems running the game then check out this page.

    Doom 1 + 2

    Version

    0 downloads

Doom Doom has done more to establish the PC’s arcade clout than any other title in gaming history. The premise is a skimpy excuse to push you through the game’s 24 levels – a space marine gets stranded on an alien base as the denizens of Hell invade, and it’s his job to fight through the demonic lines with all the firepower he can carry. Dubbed a ‘mass-murder simulator’ by its critics, Doom was nothing short of revolutionary, eventually finding its way on the PlayStation and kiddy-oriented GameBoy Advance once the PC version had become a classic. id Software’s Doom was a natural progression from the overwhelmingly well-received Wolfenstein 3D. Noticing they were on to something big, id made a goal of coding the right sort of engine that would support their next-generation 3D shooter. A sector-based system was implemented, allowing for complex levels that rendered realistic indoor and outdoor areas, complete with elevators, platforms, stairways, windows and doorways. In short, it made the grid-based labyrinths of Wolfenstein look immediately archaic. And while texture-mapped surfaces were around in games past (Shadowcaster), none were as detailed and sharp as those seen in Doom. Doom 2 Having sent the armies of the damned back to Hell, you return to Earth for peace and quiet. Naturally, some fool forgot to close the dimensional portal, leaving a gateway for all those evil denizens to invade the planet and take over. Armed with your worthless pistol and brass knuckles, you venture once again as Doom Guy to beat the invasion and drive the demons back. Although Doom 2 is essentially the same game with new levels, monsters and one mean double-barreled shotgun, the game is structured slightly differently. There are no episodes this time, but instead the game flows as one stream of linear levels. The campaign is still divided among three major themes – you start inside a spaceport, then continue through a besieged urban environment, and finally enter Hell in its appropriately sinister form. And while the Hell from the first Doom was cool, the one here is truly surreal.

    Last Action Hero

    Version

    0 downloads

Developer Psygnosis Limited Publisher Psygnosis Limited Release 1994 A fun but easy action game based on the Disney movie of the same name, Last Action Hero follows the movie's plot closely as an all-brawns-but-no-brains hero you must rescue the kids from the clutches of the town's gangsters. Gameplay is divided between a fun top-down car chasing sequence, and a disappointingly bad side-scrolling arcade portion when you barge into the warehouse to find the kids. It's an okay game that should be played only for the first part.

    Warcraft: Orcs and Humans

    Version

DOSBox This game requires DOSBox emulator. Get it here After Dune 2, avid strategy gamers were waiting for a new game, Warcraft filled that spot immediately. The first Warcraft was well received, it has a great ambiance, sounds and interface, impressive cutscenes (a Blizzard characteristic) and 2 players mode through modem or null-modem. On the downsides, the single player mode is quite short, with 2x12 missions. Graphics miss some colors sometimes though, and army management is a bit simple compared to Dune II. A must-play though for all the Warcraft fans! Warcraft gameplay

    Raiden

    Version

    0 downloads

DOSBox This game requires DOSBox emulator. Get it here Raiden is an old dos game, published in 1994 by Seibu Kaihatsu. Raiden is a classic 2D shooter, like Xenon or Raptor - many similar games have been released. This type of game was very popular in arcades and some of them have been very popular and fun to play. Unfortunately, Raiden is not like such games, because it has not bring anything new, and this game is about... basically nothing. The game does not have a basic idea and if there is any, I did not find it. Graphics lag behind other games (for example, flying objects have no hint of their own shadow, while buildings have only a parody of shadow). Although the game does not have good graphics and the music is lagging behind, we might enjoy the game if it had a super gameplay. Well, it doesn't. The game was obviously not prepared primarily for the computer with the keyboard, because the enemies are moving incredibly fast, shooting everywhere around you and you can beat the levels, only if you have reflexes at the F1 pilot level. If you have a key to knock out all levels without cheats, let me know.
