Divide by Zero’s third adventure release is an uneven space opera that has interesting puzzles and plot– marred by a huge amount of gratuitous violence and prafanity that may turn many players off.

Played in the third person through an extremely linear path, Orion’s plot revolves around your character’s investigation of the death of his son at a research station in deep space. Other, more farfetched (or derivative) plot elements come into play later in the game.

Much of the backstory is provided in a nifty little graphic novel packaged with the game, entitled “Devlin’s Story”. Other information, as well as comprehensive installation notes, are included in a well-presented game manual. Even with these aids, however, it was difficult to free up enough low DOS memory to run the game with sound card support. Orion does not identify how much free memory it requires, so there may be some trial and error in fine-tuning the game for best operation. To allow the game to run in less conventional memory, several command-line switches are suggested, which apparently display the screens at a slightly-lower resolution and offer automatic (but slow) scrolling at the screen edges.

The point-and-click user interface performs satisfactorily, with hotspots identified on the screen and possible object interactions displayed with the right mouse button. This “giveaway” of information on how you can act upon objects may make the game puzzles rather predictable and easy. On the other hand, you may find yourself spending the majority of gameplay merely moving your character from one station destination to another – often a very time-consuming process since no “zip” mode or shortcuts have been provided and access points seem arbitrarily restricted from each other. We’ll suspend our disbelief about the amount of gravity on a 10-acre asteroid.

      War Inc. is a real-time strategy computer game developed by Optik Software. It was published by Interactive Magic on August 31, 1997. It was fairly unusual at the time in its incorporation of a rudimentary stock market, placing the player directly in control of research and development, and the ability to completely customize units by using a variety of components.
      War Inc. (Project Airos in Australia and Germany) received an overall rating of 66% from GameRankings from three different review sites. While it was panned as being "mediocre" for not meeting its potential by GameSpot, Game Revolution praised it for "flexibility to create a nearly unlimited variety of units".

      Conan is a third-person action-adventure game with the majority of the action being real time hack and slash combat, though you also have to solve puzzles in the game. The player can acquire up to 14 different weapons and learn new fighting techniques similar to other role-playing video games. There are more than 70 levels, spanning from volcanoes to jungles, in which Conan faces 12 bosses and collects pieces of a legendary Atlantean sword.
      There was a multiplayer mode via Xbox Live before it went offline, where players could compete in three different game modes, play in more than 16 different maps, and had 16 different characters to play as.
      The events take place in the mythical era from the original books and comics known as the "Hyborian Age". When Conan sees his home village of Grannach burnt to the ground by the mysterious Vulture cult, he begins his quest for revenge against them.

      Everything from the characters' wisecracks, object descriptions, multiple solutions, and multiple endings are all here to delight a whole new generation of adventure gamers. If you have played the original (and if you have been playing adventure games since the 1980s but never played this one, shame on you ;)), stop reading this now and go get it - you will marvel at Ron Gilbert's ingenuity all over again. If you have never played the original, you are in for a real treat.
      This excellent (and deservedly gushing) review at MobyGames says it all about why a game made in 1987 remains better than most adventure games made over a decade later: "Few games can claim to be a revolution in every aspect of it's genre, few games that is, aside from Maniac Mansion. From interface, to plotline, to graphics, to design, etc... MM managed to become the holy grail of adventure games and it's influence can still be felt to this day.

      The plot: as the name implies, fight to avenge the fallen of your race that have been ?harvested? by the evil Krellans (no relation to Star Fleet games). Cutscenes and digitized speech both add to the atmosphere, but unfortunately the plot doesn?t get better than the very simplistic kill-the-aliens premise. Between missions, you can wander around in the base talking to different characters (who look remarkably similar to pilots in Wing Commander 1), who often have tips or info on the backstory.
      The writing is sub-par, however, making these ?interactive scenes? little more than a waste of space. The good news is that true to Gremlin?s reputation as developer of some of the best in-game 3D graphics, the 3D landscapes in Retribution are very smooth and detailed, with good gouraud-shading effects similar to NovaLogic games. Gremlin touted their technology as ?logi-scape real time landscape generating technology incorporating new "Deep Horizon' format,? and the results are great to look at.
      Retribution is a very challenging game that gets very hard very fast. With eleven major campaigns, each with 4 highly strategic missions, and 8 training missions to enhance performance, Retribution will keep the most expert of pilots occupied for some time. Recommended, but only for veteran gamers who are looking for a furious space combat game without the need for an engaging plot.

      In Jungle Strike you're mainly controlling the prototype helicopter "Comanche". In some missions, you can also use a hovercraft, a motorbike, or a F117 fighter.
      The controls in this shoot-em up are very easy and straightforward. As in most arcade shooters, you must collect new ammo, armor and fuel while fighting land, sea, and air-based enemies. In a nod to hard-core flight sims, all missions contain several sub-objectives, which have to be fulfilled in a given order. Most missions are set in either a jungle or city area.
      With a good combination of arcade and sim elements, Jungle Strike is highly recommended for fans of the genre. If you like Safari's games (e.g. Seek & Destroy) but wish they were more sim-oriented in terms of having mission objectives and depletable fuel, Desert Strike is the answer.
