About This File

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 is a real-time strategy video game which was released for Microsoft Windows on October 23, 2000 as the follow-up to Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Red Alert 2 picks up at the conclusion of the Allied campaign of the first game. Its expansion is Command & Conquer: Yuri's Revenge.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 contains two playable factions, the Soviets and the Allies, which both previously appeared in Command & Conquer: Red Alert. The single player campaign is structured in an alternate-ending mode as opposed to a progressive story mode. Red Alert 2 was a commercial and critical success, receiving an 86% from GameRankings.

After the attempted conquest of Europe depicted in Command & Conquer: Red Alert, the Soviet Union is in utter ruin. Joseph Stalin is dead, and the Soviet military has been all but destroyed. The Allies determine that a regime change would cause mass unrest in the Soviet Union, and in order to gain both support and stability in the region, the victorious Allies name Alexander Romanov, a distant relative of Tsar Nicholas II, as the puppet Soviet Premier. Romanov acquiesces to the Allies' demands at first, though he builds up the Soviet military for "defense purposes" – a cover for an intended invasion of the United States.

The game's story line starts off in 1972, with the United States Armed Forces caught completely off guard by the sudden massive Soviet invasion of the United States, with Soviet aircraft, naval vessels, amphibious forces, and paratroopers coming in on both the East Coast and West Coast and with the majority of Soviet ground forces coming in through Mexico, which had recently voted in a communist government, starting World War III. The U.S. attempts to retaliate with the use of nuclear missiles, but Yuri, leader of the Soviet Psychic Corps and Premier Romanov's top advisor, uses his mind control to manipulate the personnel charged with launching the warheads and leaves them to explode in their silos. Within hours, the U.S. is overrun with Soviet Army troops. In response, the U.S. President Michael Dugan establishes an emergency response team headed by General Dan Carville and the Commander known as "The Ghost" (the player) to the Soviet army later in the game.

Note You might need to follow this tutorial (on reddit) to get the game running on newer systems like Windows 10.

WPS Office Free, formerly Kingsoft Office, is ideal for those familiar with Microsoft Office 2003 prior to the creation of the 'ribbon' feature in 2007. It will let you feel perfectly at home. To say that it is similar to Microsoft Office would be the understatement; they are practically identical. There are three main packages:
WPS Writer, a word processor that can import from Microsoft Word (.doc & .docx) with the ability to have separate documents in a tabbed interface. WPS Spreadsheet, a spreadsheet application that can import from Microsoft Excel and having the same cells range (65,536 rows * 256 columns) as the Microsoft Office 2003 equivalent. WPS Presentation, a presentation suite that can import all Microsoft Powerpoint documents. For a freeware equivalent to Microsoft Office and for those who liked the simpler old style 2003 interface then WPS Office Suite Free is the application. There isn't a single feature I found that isn't IDENTICAL to the Microsoft Office 2003 equivalent. The similarities even go far into the styles of WordArt.
WPS did offer a unique tabbed experience allowing multiple documents or spreadsheets within the same window making switching between them quick and simple. There are however two annoying selections upon installation: the startup of a browser linking to WPS's website, and the other is a popup asking to switch to another UI (basically the new ribbon effect which isn't free).
A quirky feature is the quick UI color feature allowing the UI to be alternated to an additional eight different skins helping color code your office suite with your OS skin.
Familiar office interface, easy to pick up, tabbing within each application, direct PDF output.
Opens a browser link when application starts, switch UI popup annoying.

Return Fire was basically the 3DO's best game, and one of the most fun multiplayer action games ever.
You and either a computer player or one of your friends are given control of a bunker equipped with military vehicles and perhaps a base. The goal of the game is very simple: To capture your opponent's flag. For your firepower, you have 4 vehicles. First up is the Tank. Fast moving, and equipped with a rotatable turret, it's firepower is unfortunately fairly low compared to some of the other vehicles.
Next of all is the Rocket Launcher. Far heavier power is let down by poor maneuverability & slow speeds. It has a nice special ability in the fact that it can drop mines, perfect for destroying bridges and defending the flag. You also get the Helicopter, with missiles and bullets. It is very quick, but unfortunately can get quickly destroyed if bogged down by enemy turret fire.
Finally, there is the Jeep. Very fast and easy to drive after you understand it, it's weaponry is pitiful, just some grenades. However, this is the ONLY vehicle that can actually pick up the flag so you can win the scenario.
In single player mode, this game is unfortunately rather boring. But with a friend playing splitscreen the game improves immensely, as you scheme to beat your "friend", who will no doubt be an enemy after a few sessions of Return Fire.

Enemy Infestation is an interesting and enjoyable squad-based RTS.
The action takes place on a human colony of Redavi, where an alien spaceship has crash-landed. The ship is actually one of many colonizing pods sent out from the dying alien home planet, in an attempt to preserve their species. However that little tidbit of the alien's history has little to with the game, as the rest of the story is the standard 'aliens invade planet, humans stop aliens' fare. However, the game itself is quite intriguing. The game is set over 27 missions, and includes a good tutorial that explains the basics of the game very well. Each mission has a large variety of tasks to complete ranging from rescuing fellow colonists to exterminating all the aliens. A nice thing about the mission structure, is that you will always have at least three missions available to choose from, allowing you to go on with the game if any level gets too tough (and trust me, they will). The interface is simple and easy to use, anyone who is familiar with RTS games can skip the tutorial entirely.
Enemy Infestation plays like other squad-based strategy games. You lead your troops around discovering the map, killing enemies and completing tasks. What makes this game unique from other games of its genre is its weapons system. When you begin a mission, the effect of the weapons you will find is unknown. You have to experiment with the weapons you find to see what effect they have on the aliens. The effects can be beneficial, such as shrink, kill, freeze, or detrimental: multiply, grow, attract. These effects change each time you play, so a gun that may have been useful for killing aliens in the last mission may cause them to multiply in the next mission. Its is not all trial and error though, as there are a few weapons with consistent effects. Some of the missions even allow you to research and modify a weapon to become more useful to you. Unfortunately, there are only five maps over which the missions take place. Later missions just re-use the same map, with different object placement and different locked doors. But the designers have done a good job of making sure each mission plays differently from other missions using the same map.
